Abandoned EVANESCENCE Music Could Surface, Says Singer
October 7, 2011According to The Pulse Of Radio, EVANESCENCE singer Amy Lee said in a new interview with Billboard that it was difficult for her to stop making a new record in 2010 and start over from scratch on what eventually became the band's third major label disc. Lee began working on new material in 2009 and started recording in 2010 with producer Steve Lillywhite, but abandoned that project, which was reportedly more dance-oriented, and returned to a traditional heavy rock sound for the group.
But Lee said that she thinks the music made during those 2009 and 2010 sessions could resurface somewhere down the line. "Absolutely I do," she said. "I think that some of those songs aren't right for EVANESCENCE. Some of the songs that we had at that time may be for a solo thing in the future. We really do have a lot of extra songs from that time and also songs that the band wrote together. My head's totally focused on EVANESCENCE right now, but I think it's totally possible that some of those songs will end up on a different project someday maybe solo, maybe something else."
Lee told Billboard that the unreleased music "wasn't like EVANESCENCE music. Some of it was really stripped-down and acoustic. And I went through this big phase where it was more based on programming, and not about the band really at all . . . but when we went into the studio at that time, we just weren't all the way there. It just wasn't sounding right."
The singer said that the album the band eventually recorded is "truly an EVANESCENCE record now," which is why she also decided to have it go out self-titled.
EVANESCENCE's last album, "The Open Door", came out in 2006.
The first single from the new disc, "What You Want", is now a Top 10 hit at rock radio and Top 20 at modern rock.
The new album arrives on Tuesday (October 11),with the group kicking off a North American tour one day earlier on Monday (October 10) in Oakland.
